Long Island Bahamas 2012
way out of town
Does paradise have a downside? Nooseeum or the devils scorge
The people are friendly.
The food is amazing.
The beaches are world class with lots of variety.
The climate is amazing almost year round.
BEWARE THE NOSEEUM
Some people aren't as bothered by noseeum's but they ate me every time they could find me until I found a combo that worked to deter them.
This may seem excessive but here are the must have items for the Bahamas IMO. The combination 95% deet from Gander Mountain and Out worked to deter the Noseeum's. Off products are candy to them forget about it. The allegra and cortizone or benedryl is for after an attack. I was allergic to them so I had to go to great lengths to knock the back. Stacey was barely affected which drove me crazy or I was the bait.... If you plan on going to the Bahamas go prepared.
Island Hobby Beach Combing
Here are some of the shells we found on the beaches. We left most at the beach house.
The King Conch. This guy was on the beach in the sharky waters on Gordon's beach on the southern tip of Long Island.
Bahamian Mood On Galloway Beach
Here is the place we called home for only 12 days.
This place survived Hurricane Sandy pretty well but the landscaping did not all make it.
Holy cow road work
Nov 26th Bonacorde Beach Atlantic Side Again
We had to scale ancient coral rock to got to these other beaches.
BRAINS!
Scampering up that coral hill.
Telephone Booth
Perhaps we are easily entertained but I can't remember when the last time I saw a usable phone booth.
Nov 25 Exploring Diamond Crystal Salt Mines
Diamond Crystal is 20 miles of beach front and 25,000 acres of land sitting unused abandoned.
My favorite directions on the island turn left off Queens Hwy in Roses and turn right at the abandoned air strip. Drive to the end and turn left...lol
One of the many side roads.
Decent road after the airstrip.
The buildings and equipment were just left abandoned.
Apparently they needed lots and lots of explosives.
The porcelain lights were in great shape after so many years.
Really weird.
Even this tug boat was left behind. What a waste.
Eventually you get to these beautiful beaches.
Gotta love Long Island Bahamas.
